The Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG), the federal law that sets the parameters from which state legislation is written, does not have any minimum inspection requirements. Congress requires the Department of Defense to conduct quarterly inspections of its child care programs, but there is no similar federal requirement for civilian child care. Few states conduct inspections quarterly and most conduct an inspection once a year or LESS frequently.
The tables listed below show the frequency of licensing inspections for centers and family child care homes and the availability of inspection results to parents.
