Arlington, VA-- Child Care Aware® of America is providing resources for parents, early education advocates and other concerned citizens to help keep the need for affordable, quality child care for working families on the agenda November 6.

The topic of child care and early education was not addressed during recent Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, and the topic has largely been ignored on the campaign trail.

Child Care Aware® of America’s Lunch & Learn free webinar series will host two upcoming, election-themed sessions. How to Make Child Care a Priority in This Election, on Thursday, October 25 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, will discuss how to evaluate candidates and how important it is that families with children vote. Get out the Vote!, on Thursday, November 1 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern, will address strategies to ensure that people who care about safe, affordable, quality child care have a voice in this election. Register for the webinars here.

Citizens also can send an email to the candidates through Child Care Aware® of America’s Action Center. The email urges the candidates to listen to working families and address the issue of the need for quality, affordable child care.

“Nearly 11 million children are in child care every week – on average for about 35 hours. It is time to ensure that children are safe in child care and in a setting to promote their healthy development,” the email states.

Access to affordable child care is essential for a strong economy. Safe, affordable, quality child care allows parents to obtain and retain a job. It also helps children learn the social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills needed to develop in a healthy manner and ultimately to start school ready to succeed. Longitudinal studies based on quality early education show savings for individuals and taxpayers on costs for K-12 education, for welfare and for the justice system. They show an astonishing estimated return on investment.
