Child Care Aware® of America is one of at least 30 organizations that have joined forces with Save the Children to call on President Obama and Congress to establish a new National Commission on Children.
Recent events such as the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, have sparked a national conversation about the safety of children in America. If created, the Commission would work to ensure the safety and well-being of every child by creating a national policy on children; setting goals for protecting children's well-being, including reducing poverty and violence; and monitoring progress on stated goals.
A National Commission on Children and Disasters, which worked to improve the gaps in preparedness, response and recovery policies that should specifically address the needs of children, was terminated by law on April 4, 2011.
Signatures on a petition calling for the Commission are being gathered on the Save the Children website. To lend your support, click here.
